From The Book of Discipline

What We BelieveAs United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church's life and witness. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to express faithfully the witness we make in our own time.

     VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION

Volunteers in mission have been present since the beginning of the church. St. Paul was one of the earliest volunteers in mission. As a tentmaker, he financed his own missionary journeys to preach the Christian gospel and share the love of Christ with persons in many places.

In more recent times, the concept of giving personal time in volunteer Christian service has developed into a major mission effort. All of God's children have unique gifts and skills which can be used in ministry. The Mission Volunteers Program Area facilitates the wise use of these gifts and skills.
